HALF DAY WORKSHOPS PRESENTED BY RENOWNED PSYCHOLOGIST, NEIL TUCK

Emotional Fitness - the key to peak performance and beating stress!

The demanding, fast-paced lives we lead, so easily lures us into a very reactive style of managing ourselves. This compromises not only our potential effectiveness, but our overall well-being and happiness.

As you journey through life:

  • Are you taking the "low road" or the "high road"?
  • Do you passively and gratefully accept being free of emotional adversity, or are you pro-actively striving to optimise your "emotional fitness"?
  • What does it take to become emotionally fit and what are the rewards?

This engaging and thought-provoking presentation addresses these questions and prompts a curiosity, reflection and introspection about whether you are adequately prepared for a fulfilling, happy and successful onward journey.

What makes teams fly or flounder?

We're often reminded of the fact that a group of resourceful and effective individuals do not necessarily translate into an effective team.

When asked about the criteria for team effectiveness, most teams would hasten to mention the buzzwords: trust, synergy, collaboration, focus, commitment, leadership and many more. The reality is that these key ingredients in the recipe for team success, do not come about by them being recorded in a team's mission and vision. This presentation offers thought-provoking insights into the sometimes complex (but often frightfully simple) variables that influence a team's dynamic and ultimately its performance.

Performance through wellness and not at the expense of it!

In the fast-paced lives of many entrepreneurs and corporate employees, high performance is often unnecessarily pursued at the expense of their own health and well-being as well as that of their loved ones.

In stark contrast, a new breed of employee is emerging who refuses to subscribe to the philosophy of performance at all costs. They have no illusion about the fact that there is life beyond work. Their prioritising reflects a healthy balance between the work and non-work facets of their life. They are proof that to display loyalty to self, need not equate to disloyalty to the company. They are unlikely to fall into the trap of becoming "super employees" whilst compromising other life priorities and estranging themselves from the people that are dear to them. Increasingly, it is these people who are being vigorously pursued by world-class organisations and who are achieving and sustaining impressively high levels of performance.

This presentation takes a closer look at this new breed of employee, how they achieve performance through wellness, and how this approach yields rich rewards for themselves as well as those dear to them.

The role of wellness in the high-performance culture.

There is compelling evidence to suggest that the increasingly demanding, competitive and stressful corporate environment is taking its toll on our physical and mental health and wellbeing. Potentially avoidable lifestyle related diseases occur at significant cost (not just financial), to both the individual and the employer.

Due to increasing pressure to remain functional, there is a tendency to deal reactively with these negative manifestations. We are lured into the trap of merely alleviating the signs of "wear and tear" so as to be able to become functional again in the shortest possible time. In this paradigm, a "wellness" strategy is likely to equate to a form of organisational support focusing on creating the "safety net" for employees who happen to be unfortunate enough to be experiencing some or other form of dysfunction.

More and more individuals and organizations are realizing the short-sightedness of this approach. To achieve and sustain high performance in the modern corporate arena, a more positive and pro-active approach is required. This approach recognises that the best safeguard against stress and the many diseases of lifestyle, is effective self-management and self-maintenance. There is a realisation that the expenditure on promoting health and well-being is less than the eventual expenditure on managing the many ramifications of high risk and diseased employees.

This presentation:

  • gives a practical account of what wellness is, both physical and psychological
  • explains the role wellness plays in optimising individual and organisational effectiveness
  • addresses some of the key organisational challenges in entrenching a culture of wellness.
